Tricks for Organizing Your Linen Closet
Check out a few of these nifty hacks to keep you linen closet looking, well...dreamy.
The Rule of Three. I recommend that clients keep three sets of sheets per bed in the house, and three sets of towels per person. (One in use, one in the laundry, and one in the closet.) If you’ve got more than that, your closet will be overstuffed. So if you’ve indulged on a special set of sheet, choose another set you can generously donated to someone or something else.
Purge. Get rid of mis-matched, torn or wrong sized items. Donate or re-purpose them for craft projects. Pro Tip: Use some painters tape to help you label each piece of linen so you don’t get confused.
Store. Fold up the flat sheet and pillowcases inside the fitted sheet. My team member Helen calls this the ’sheet burrito.” This technique makes the entire set easy to grab, and reduces the need to hunt for the rogue missing pillowcase. If you roll your towels, they will stack better. Or if you have drawer space, I like to “Konmari Fold” my towels so I can see them all at a glance.
Top Shelf. This is the place for beach towels, sleeping bags, air mattresses, etc. can all be stored on the high shelf. Place these items in large baskets or the large Ziploc bags so they are easy to reach. You may want to keep a small step stool in the bottom of the linen closet so kids can reach things easier when they are reaching for higher shelves, or for yourself!
